What Customers Say About Olympus Stylus 1030SW 10.1MP Digital Camera with 3.6x Optical Wide Angle Zoom (Black):

I think it is perfect for an amateur photographer who wants to be able to use their camera near or under the water. It is fairly easy to use and has a lot of helpful information on settings in the menu so you don't have to have a manual to understand it. My teenagers use it all the time for waterskiing pictures and I don't have to worry that they will break it. I purchased the 1030SW before I went on a cruise 2 years ago, and I really love it. I was able to take it snorkeling and it took great underwater shots.

Wish I'd heeded the warning of a few other reviews that had the same problem I did and stuck to the disposable waterproof cameras. So now, I've got to send it back at my own expense for repair. BUYER BEWARE. I did lots of research before purchasing this camera for water use and now I'm very sad that I picked this one. I've had the camera for about 90 days, used it in the water only about 5 times and there's apparenlty water behind the lens because the picture is cloudy.

The camera (black olympus 1030sw)had worked great for my father the previous year and as such 4 more cameras were purchased by friends/family (green olympus 1030sw). Additionally, while on a snorkel trip to Lanai one of the deckhands on the boat overheard our conversation about the camera and indicated hers died after 10 underwater trips.

By day 4 all of the paint was gone and on day 5 the frame that surrounds the lens on the face of the camera fell off.Although it is cosmetically damaged, it does still function. She also said this has happened to many people/customers taking her snorkel tour. The 1 functional unit in our group (black camera) was perfectly fine for a previous 2 week Hawaii trip, but within 2 days this time the black paint had began to flake off.

Do not purchase this camera. with the Olympus 1030sw.

All in all 4 of 5 cameras completely stopped working and now we will all be contacting Olympus for replacement. This camera was purchased for a family trip to Maui and I was very excited about using it for snorkeling.

Within 5 days all 4 green cameras had stopped working due to water entering the supposedly water tight battery or USB compartments.I was successfully able to use my new camera for 1 day, but upon entering the water on day 2 the camera's LCD screen stopped working.Of the other 3 other broken cameras, 1 stopped working immediately after going underwater, 1 stopped working on the 3rd snorkel trip and the other on snorkel day 5.While in Maui I did a quick internet search to find that this is a very common issue [.].

Camera got moisture in the compartment and now does not turn on. I didn't go below 2 ft before getting a warning to "close the battery compartment" except I never opened it once, It had been sealed properly the 2 previous days. It remains to be seen what olympus will do about it. Bought this camera for a snorkeling trip. After two days it proved not to be waterproof.

Sent it by priority mail (cost about $5) on the Friday after returning from vacation. So the bad news is that the camera is not necessarily water-proof, but the good news (at least for me) was the super fast warranty repair. Bought this camera to take pictures while snorkeling. But after only two pictures in the water while snorkeling the camera stopped working. The attached repair packing slip just said "liquid damaged". All I got were the dreaded chimes of death. You have to send in a copy of your sales receipt, the warranty card, and a brief description of the problem.

All works fine now, although I'm not sure that I will try it in water again. They even got rid of some scratches on the camera's front black face.

The camera would not turn on. That was quick.

Tested it in a bathtub for leakage before packing for vacation, and all was well with no leaks. Olympus made the warranty repair and returned it to me the following Friday.

And I agree with everyone who say that the photo quality from this camera is subpar. Maybe I should've tested it in salt water.

I called Olympus service and they sent me a link to request a service repair.
